Penn has a long standing commitment to environmental standards and reporting. An initial environmental assessment was conducted in 2001, since then Penn’s environmental track record has demonstrated significantly improved results year on year. The company gained their first accreditation to this international standard in February 2006. Penn is one of only nine companies and one of two pharmaceutical companies in Wales to have the ‘Green Dragon’ environmental award at level 5. Penn was also winner of the Wales Environment Awards 2006 Environmental Management Systems and Sustainability reporting category for business (over 50 employees) and in 2006 the Blaenau Gwent Council Environment Awards for business. In addition, Penn shares their expertise and experience related to Environmental achievements with other organisations as part of the Inside Welsh Industry programme Benchmarking Best Practise programme. Valerie Ellis, Human Resources Director at Penn, who was responsible for overseeing the accreditation process said: "We are delighted to have achieved accreditation to the SGS/UKAS ISO 14001 standard for the second consecutive year. At Penn, we strive to ensure that all our business processes meet the required environmental and sustainability standards."
