PENN PHARMA INVESTS IN WORLD-CLASS INVENTORY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM - 2 Nov 2009

Global integrated pharmaceutical manufacturer, Penn Pharma, has invested over £350,000 in a state-of-the-art inventory management system – incorporating real time bar coding control, unprecedented levels of stock accuracy and the Penn Customer Portal. This makes it one of the first companies in Europe to provide customers with an all-encompassing, remote access global product and inventory tracking service.

Chief operating officer at Penn Pharma, Darren Hassey, said:

"As a business, we have a large worldwide market presence, particularly in the States and Japan. Our investment in this new Customer Portal not only increases product visibility for customers wishing to track their order status, materials disposition and third party courier logistics but further enables Penn Pharma to compete on the global stage as an exemplar of best practice."

The main driver behind this investment has been to make the processes within Penn Pharma completely transparent for its customers so that the company becomes a client partner rather than a supplier, providing support every step of the way.

The new Penn Customer Portal is completely secure and allows customers to remotely access and track their Penn Pharma product inventory and also materials in transit to the end destination, whether it be an investigator site or customer storage facility. The Portal provides access to real time inventory information concerning excipients, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients, packaging materials and finished products/clinical packs, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Innovative links with third party courier websites also allow customers to view despatch information via the Portal to enable full traceability of materials and finished products across the supply chain.

Darren Hassey concludes:

"Our new Customer Portal system has been fully validated by an independent specialist making us the first company in Europe, if not the world, to validate this Sage 500 ERP software package to further enhance the quality of service and compliance we provide for our customers as part of our suite of integrated formulation, analytical services, clinical trials supply and clinical / commercial manufacturing solutions."
